In the middle of the famous 5th Avenue will find Carpenters Workshop Gallery. A hallmark of design galleries that has also locations in London and Paris. You can say that Carpenters Workshop Gallery is always following the pulse of the design industry and tries to inspire future creates with its open spaces and welcoming environment
I’ve also got to mention Espasso, one of the most famous design galleries in NYC within a specific cultural identity. Espasso is a mecca for mid-century and contemporary brazilian design, showcasing icons like Carlos Motta and the Campana Brothers. This still recent but prestigious gallery needs to be a mandatory stopping point for every single fan of design. This is a place for modern style design, but in a way, all aspects of the industry are welcomed here, even the more theoretical.
In the middle of Tribeca, the beating heart of NYC cultural identity, we can find the Colony. A co-op design space founded in 2014 by Jean Lin, the Colony is a favorite of questioning visitors and industry experts that visit the gallery in the hopes of finding a strong mixture of furniture, textiles and objets d’art.
It’s not exactly a gallery like the other places mentioned in this article, but in an objective way the NYC Museum of Arts and Design it’s the biggest and most prestigious gallery in NYC. Originally founded as the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, this space focuses on handmade objects, especially items that stretch the imagination with their inventive and odd takes on familiar items and materials. It’s a place of culture where design is explored and the future is created. The building itself it’s a wonderful piece of modern design. The best part? It’s open on weekends!
