Nicolas Lapierre, Francis Pelletier, Elodie Doukhan, Joël Lortie and Francis Labrecque make the wonderful team of Atelier L’abri.  Extremely talented architects with a passion for interior and architectural design that together work in perfect harmony to develop residencial and commercial projects. They are known for turning mere ideas to impressive, sustainable architectural projects of the highest-quality. At My Design Agenda, we were already big fans of Atelier L’abri  but we fell in love with their 2015 project “Wood Duck“.

Wood Duck is a small wood cabin designed escpecially for a young carpenter wishing to build his house in Bolton. “A simple concept, rational plan and traditional building methods were put forward to simplify the construction of the project.”  This compact cabin was designed to blend into the landscape, it’s turned to south  to face Mount Glen and overlooks the river below.  “The raw and evolving nature of the material preserves the surrounding nature.”

The home’s layout is square and organised practically. The living spaces are located on the ground floor, bathed in natural light by a curtain wall. The serving spaces occupy the north of the house. There is an entrance in the eastern side of the house, where the architects located a lobby and mud room, leading to an open kitchen, living and dining room that occupies half of the space.
