The Armadillo Tea Pavilion is designed as an independent shell structure, for use indoors and outdoors. The modularity of components provides freedom to configure the tea canopy to suit a number of arrangements, which can be expanded when using additional shells. Be it an informal garden enclosure, playroom, pavilion, or place of reflection, the canopy is designed to be structurally independent, and can be installed as a freestanding element, with the possibility of additional anchoring where desired.

The PP Trees by Tom Price are both an expression of the capabilities of the material from which they are made – polypropylene pipe – and also an examination of attitudes towards plastics and our perception of beauty. The trees are not intended to be accurate representations of natural forms but instead attempt to evoke an atmosphere similar to what one might experience standing amid a cluster of cherry trees in full bloom.

Masatoshi Izumi & Koichi Hara’s Stone Tea House Meditative Alcove presented by Gallery Japonesque is simultaneously plainly present and subliminally absent. The meditation space, tea house, is a stone shell remnant from the removal of a large block of stone. The room like the skin left behind in molting is a shell, protective and powerful for the person within.

Design Miami/ is more than a marketplace for design, where the world’s top galleries gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of twentieth and twenty-first-century furniture, lighting and objets d’art.
