Design Miami 2017 Promotes Solidarity With Humanitarian Prize!
The 2017 Panerai Design Miami/ Visionary Award will be officially presented, this year, in December at Design Miami 2017 (6th-10th December of 2017) to the Mwabwindo School project. The event will take place in Miami Beach alongside the prestigious art event Art Basel/ Miami Beach 2017.
In its fourth year, the annual award is sponsored by Officine Panerai and celebrates significant contributions to the field of design. For the first time in the award’s history, the recipient is a collaborative project, conceived by 14+ Foundation, Selldorf Architects and artist Rashid Johnson with the new contribution of commissioned furniture by Christ & Gantenbein. The project of the building itself was created by Selldorf Architects in New York.
The Mwabwindo Schooll which will open in 2018 and will serve primary school students in rural southern
Zambia, will be the second school in the region developed by 14+ Foundation, an organization committed to increasing education accessibility in rural African communities, where travel distance to school is one of the biggest impediments to quality education.
This foundation it’s the official partner of Design Miami for this special humanitarian prize that aims to develop some social awareness within the design industry. As mentioned early, The Mwabwindo Schooll will be completely equipped with furniture by Swiss design company Christ & Gantenbein, that joined Miami Design and the 14+ Foundation in this important mission.
As for the event itself, Design Miami 2017 will once again promote a grand marketplace for collectible design, amidst which the most reputable international design galleries present curated exhibitions of museum quality furniture, lighting, and objets d’art, attracting the highest level of private and public collectors of historical and contemporary design.
This year, Design Miami/ will feature several galleries and companies from all over the planet and, like in previous years, aims to offer any visitor and exhibitor the best design experience possible. If you are a design aficionado you can’t miss this event that, like we mentioned early, has a strong humanitarian component.
Just remember that Design Miami/ is the global forum for design. Each fair brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. Thanks to past success, Design Miami/ has become the premier venue for collecting, exhibiting, discussing and creating collectible design.
