Design news: Art Basel Miami Beach Preview

[wp_ad_camp_2]
With December fast approaching, the international art world turns to Miami, home of one of the largest, most exciting, and flashiest art events of the year: Art Basel Miami Beach. For its 14th iteration in the city, Basel promises to live up to the hype and scale of previous years, this time bringing together some 267 galleries from 32 countries.

The sprawling fair takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center over the course of five days (including a private viewing on December 2) and is divided into sectors, such as Survey, Nova, Positions, Kabinett, Galleries, Edition, and Public, devised to make the massive event more manageable. Film screenings, panel conversations, and salon events will take place throughout—not to mention many glamorous (and often exclusive) parties, filled with industry insiders and culturally inclined celebrity types.

Perhaps the biggest news of this Art Basel Miami Beach is the debut of a new Americas director, Noah Horowitz, whose hiring reaffirms the fair’s commitment to a region represented by half of the exhibitors this year.

The Survey sector of this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach presents 14 art-historical projects, either by individual artists or as larger, thematic group exhibitions. Peres Projects, from Berlin, will be showing works by 81-year-old, American-born, Berlin-based artist Dorothy Iannone, who has been making vibrant work since the 1960s.
