Recently the studio designed the Dubai Apple Store using carbon-fibre screens around the building’s structure creating a fine example of contemporary and sustainable design. The purpose was not only to deliver some protection from the sun light to the space throughout the day, but also give access to the terrace by night time.

The carbon-fibre solar wings convey an idea of motion of an eagle flapping its wings, shading the shop floor during the day but opening at night to the stunning landscapes of Burj Khalifa. I mean could it be more unique? Don’t think so.

Foster + Partners studio managed to create a monumental ballet recital in this project, allowing the building a delicate sense of movement and beauty. The Dubai Apple Store is timeless, balanced combination between technology and art enabling visitors a spiritual experience where the sun creates beautiful patterns of light and shade.

The building is located at Dubai Mall in the United Arab Emirates city, and it contains a 56-meter-long sweeping terrace that gives views to the world’s tallest building: the 830-metre-tal Burj Khalifa. The shop also features a series of cylindrical planters with full-sized trees which are designed to mechanically rotate to ensure the trees get even sunlight and of course, placed in the space to ensure the guests have access to the view.
