The historical Moore building built in 1921 is also home to a site-specific installation by Zaha Hadid, Elastika, commissioned by Robins. He says of the work, “Zaha Hadid was the recipient of Design Miami’s first Designer of the Year award in 2005. I commissioned her to design Elastika, an installation for the atrium of the Moore Building. The white sculpture is a futuristic contrast to its art deco surroundings.”

The most advanced technology of that time, CNC (Computer Numerical Control) miling, enabled the form to be generated on complex software. The installation maximises the spatial concepts and creates a vibrant tension within the strict forms of the space, which encompasses four mezzanines and vertical columns that stretch upwards to the central atrium. The space breathes in and moves back and forth between the 20th and 21st century, vehicling a spirit of dynamic creativity, post-post modernistic and heralds the arrival of a much-needed new age of design and architecture. The perfect place to award the M&O AMERICAS talents of today, who will bring us all into the design of tomorrow.
