Modern Oasis by SkB Architects is filled with minimalist elegance, contemporary decor and natural lighting!
Founded in 1999 by designers Shannon Gaffney, Kyle Gaffney and Brian Collins-Friedrichs, SkB is a Seattle-based interior design and architecture studio which takes a 360 degree approach in every project. From space planning, architectural design, graphic communications and lighting design, SkB architects are known for designing engaging, flexible and performance driven environments.
Recently the designers were responsible for taking care of Bell Henry, a family house located in Medina a waterfront town that sits across Lake Washington from Seattle. The project, which was also called Modern Oasis, features a gallery-like design with white walls and full height windows.
The clients were drawn to the location due to its surrounding natural landscape and lake views, and asked to renovate the previous 1990’s residence into a comfortable, suitable place to raise their family. According to the studio the past building featured a dark and inwardly focused design and an austere interpretation of modern architecture.
The original 353-square-metre house was transformed with a brand new roof, large fixed windows and white stucco exterior walls, which brightened up the whole aesthetic and enabled views to key focal points of the landscape.
The home centers around the main living space which extends from the front to the back entrance and features the original sunken living room.

Inside, the studio opt to create a gallery-like aesthetic where white walls contrast with dark wooden floors. From the buckshot flooring to granite countertops, a balance between organic and inorganic materials creates an atmosphere of minimalist elegance.
The living room is placed at the center of the dwelling and features contemporary decor.
In the dining room area one can find a long white table and credenza as well as a large abstract horse sculpture which enables a unique design to the space. A modern pendant light finishes up the look.
The kitchen features glossy white cabinetry and a floating island sheathed in grey stone. A glazed wall overlooks a small patio, where the family can enjoy casual meals outdoors.
Modern Oasis also includes a renovated master suite where floor-to-ceiling glass offers view of the backyard and surrounding trees.
