Studio MWAI opt for a soft-grey color pallet, chevron patterned tiling and oak flooring for London’s family flat.
London-based design studio MWAI was founded in 2008 to create high quality, engaging places for people to experience and live in. With a young and experienced team of creatives and designers, the studio which is led by Matthew Woodthorpe and Alessia Mosci, focuses on the understanding of the client’s vision and maintaining interest and context of the location of each individual project.

Recently MWAI, designed a minimalist flat in London, using a soft-grey color pallet, chevron patterned tiling and oak flooring. The geometric tiling and diverse shades of white and grey were used to emphasize the space and lighting among the space. The minimalist interior design project was a request by two design enthusiasts and their growing family.
According to the designers, they wanted to create a warm and welcoming entrance that would lead guests to the living room on the upper floor. For that, a grey entrance hall, is located at the center of the residence, creating a large open space where doors lead off to bedrooms, a bathroom and a laundry room.
The soft hues in the walls are balanced with grey-washed floors.

The minimalist flat had been renovated several times in the past, being converted into multiple apartments many years before the project, however it was the designer’s goal to maintain a certain connection with the building’s original architecture.
The clean lines and simple forms are softened through the use of patterned timber. In the dressing area of the master bedroom, soft tones and within the timber furniture add a lightness to the design.
In the master bathroom, “geometric rigour” was injected into the design by laying marble tiles in a chevron pattern across the floor and rear wall of the shower.
The shower itself is a glazed box, delineated by a black frame – creating clean lines and an atmosphere of what the studio called “controlled minimalism”.

In one of the children’s bedrooms, a house-shaped timber frame continues the light-hearted design, complemented by splashes of color in the furniture and rugs.
