New Collections To Be Launched at Biennale Interieur 2016 – An uncompromissing selection of contemporary design.

The Biennale Interieur, known for its uncompromising international selection of contemporary design, has been a strong force in the field of design events since it took place for the first time in 1968. Unlike other trade fair organizers, Interieur adopted the status of a non-profit organization from the start and created an innovative model to represent design as a cultural as well as a commercial entity. Moreover, there is an important goal: leading design to be a discipline that works for a better world. And this mission expands itself to satellite events, important to the status of the festival: the debates and lectures, curators and the Interieur Awards created in 1972. The 2016’s edition will take place from 14-23 October 2016, in Kortrijk, Belgium and welcomes around 90,000 visitors.

In this article, we highlight three collections to be presented during this year’s edition which are, somehow, representative of the diversity and innovative profile of Biennale Interieur: the interactive and high technological Jacquard machine from the Swedish brand Bolon, PJ Mares with his new kitchen that combines sustainability and efficiency and Normann Copenhagen that brings a minimalistic collection with a slightly touch of luxury. You should not miss this.

Bolon to Launch ‘Jacquard Collection’ with Doshi Levien, based on new interactive design concept

Leading Swedish design flooring brand, Bolon has chosen the designers Doshi Levien to create the new collection Bolon By You. Thanks to a high technology called Jacquard machine, it features six new patterns with influences from the worlds of art, fashion, culture and textiles and offers the possibility of choosing among 90 colours in order to create up to 288 versions. A real Mecca for interiors designers and architects to customize their projects.

‘We have been working on different levels in order to give a creative guidance, to help Bolon to communicate the project with the visual campaign Material Interventions and to create a new web tool for architects and interior designers’, says Levien.

PJ MARES presents ‘The World’s Best Kitchen’

First-time participant PJ MARES blends interior design with old school furniture manufacturing. As they say themselves, they combine “the logic of the Scandinavians and the sexiness of the Italians”. One of their latest ventures is NOMAX, an ambitious project to design the world’s best kitchen. They wanted to create a sustainable, super-efficient kitchen that could compete with professional ones. To obtain this, they twisted the regular kitchen structure upside down. They went for a simple, solid steel structure with wooden drawers instead of the regular particleboard and light metals.

Normann Copenhagen presents ‘Ace’, a lounge chair with a touch of luxury

Designed by Hans Hornemann, Ace adds a touch of luxury in a handy fashion. Inspired by his own life in Copenhagen, he combines quality and aesthetics with flexibility and price. The Ace Lounge chair has a luxurious, attractive feel in a flat-pack concept. Hans Hornemann has worked intensively on the all stages of the design process, from shaping and manufacturing, to logistics, storage and transport. Ace can be disassembled and is a space-saver when transported or stored. Perfect for urban metropolitans in need of quality, with added ease of use. So typical, as we got used to Scandinavian lifestyle optimization.
