Established in 2012 in Brooklyn, Office of Architecture believes in the artful orchestration of vision and logistics and that imagination doesn’t disprove common sense. Each of their project is engaged with sensibility to envision a bigger picture and the realization of its potential.

Recently the studio gutted and expanded a local row house for a family of four, who have been living there for eight years. The clients  – an architect, jewelry designer and their two children – opt to remain in the neighborhood but completely overhaul the 93-square-metre residence.

According to the designers, many young families in New York actually face a similar puzzle to find  “the possibility of sacrificing location for space”.  In response, the residence was transformed and nearly doubled in size.

Considering the narrow site, one of the major challenges was to create extra space without using further lot space. The solution was to add two more floors which included a rooftop master suite and a cellar.

A staircase was placed in the opposite side of the building while a lightwell was created to draw sunshine and air through the interior.

A new entryway was also designed through the basement, along with additional laundry and storage space. The interior design is characterized by minimalist lines where rustic walnut floors are contrasted with black hues, white walls and contemporary decor.
