Helsinki Bar designed by Studio Joanna Laajisto includes tan leather upholstery and dark woods to create a 70’s vibe
Founded in 2010 in Heksinki, Studio Joanna Laajisto is a boutique design firm that works in the fields of commercial interiors. Their projects include retail, hospitality, workplace design as well as product and concept design. Their projects value sustainability and passion for beauty and quality.
Recently they designed Jackie, a Helsinki Bar where vintage components create an authentic travel to the 70’s. It was named after the song by Scott Walker by the owner Antti Eerikäinen as a brief vision of what he expected for its interior design. According the designer Joanna Laajisto “Best brief I have ever received”.
Studio Joanna Laajisto, inspired by the Italian lounge music and the 70’s French cosmic disco, opt out for a dark green color pallet, tan leather upholstery, dark woods and marble for the bar design.
Using these decorative items the designers wanted to pull of a “atmosphere of a hotel lobby without the rooms upstairs”.
The dark green walls and ceiling along with the tan leather sofas make you feel like you’re in a bar in Milan in the 70’s. A Pipistrello table lamp by Gae Aulenti reinforces that illusion.
Special attention was given to the DJ Booth, since it’s an important part of the bar’s environment. Live DJs are often invited to the space therefore it was a must to make it look as dazzling. Sapele wood makes the finish of the booth to match the bar counter design just like a “little sister”.
Custom-made tables with stripy inlaid marble tops designed by Laajisto, are also part of the setting, as well as walnut lounge chairs by Konstantin Grcic.
Colorful tiles make the bathroom design walls that are balanced out with a vintage wall mirror and white washbasin.
Jackie by Studio Joanna Laasjisto is located in a street in the Punavuori area also known as the city’s design district. The bar opened at the end of April 2017 and is ready to serve up some italian style pizza by chef Antto Melasniemi.
