As you probably know by now,Cecile Manz is the official Designer of the Year of the Maison et Objet 2018 event that will be held in Paris in January. Taking this into consideration let’s learn more about some of the most inspiring works of this world-class Danish designer.
As you know, Cecilie Manz designs furniture, glass, lamps and industrial products, mainly for the home. Her experimental prototypes and more sculptural one-offs make up also play an important part of her work. Since graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1997, Cecilie Manz has worked on various projects, such as sofa throws, a series of wooden armchairs, a collection of dining tables and chairs for Fritz Hansen, glass vases, and several models of portable speakers for B&O Play.
She’s one of the most prominent faces of young Scandinavian design. She’s also extremely faithful to the minimalistic and classic style of Scandinavian design and, that’s why she’s regarded as one of the most promising jewels of this particular type of design. In fact, her passion for minimalist work it’s obvious through her pieces and projects.
Her work has been reaching more people each year that goes by, but one of the main highlights of her career was the Caravaggio Lamp, a 2005 project with Lightyears, that help jumpstarted her career. This is an elegant lighting piece that fully represents the minimalistic qualities of Manz. The light emitted from the lamp is guided by a top piece, which adds the finishing touch to the lamp’s minimalist expression. Despite not being a best seller, it is certainly a long-term seller that has marked the work of the designer.
