These past days, Dubai hosted the Downtown Design 2017, the fifth edition of this event. Let us see what were the highlights of this illustrious event that made Dubai the interior design capital of the world for a week.
As expected, Downtown Design 2017 main trends focus on the future of interior design and what technology can bring to the table to help improve and create new segments within the interior design community. Several brands showed off their new intelligent and high-tech solutions for residential and commercial projects, like for instance the Italian brand Brazza, that presented at Downtown Design 2017 a new line of intelligent and sophisticated kitchens.
In the same segment, German domestic appliances brand Gaggenau presented a series of new household products that push high-tech solutions to a whole new level.
Another particular focus of this year’s edition was lighting. There were a lot of lighting brands present at the event, namely luxury lighting brands and lighting brands that want to apply new technologies to the industries. In this particular area, we have to highlight German brand Occhio, one of the most forward-thinking companies in the lighting industry. This company developed holistic, multifunctional luminaire and spotlight systems that may be revolutionary for the lighting sector. By integrating LED and Electronics in one compact module, their VOLT range allows for seamless plug and play lighting options. An important innovation that turned heads at the event.
The other biggest focus of this years event was luxury design, a recurring theme for this event and even for the whole industry. Several luxury furniture brands from across the globe presented their newest collections at the event. One of the highlights was the collaboration between an ilustrious Aquazurra fashion brand and world-class De Gournay Interiors.
These two elegant companies presented an amazing collection that galvanized the event. They created so much impact with their designs that even won the prestigious award for Best Fashion-To-Furniture Brand attributed by popular magazine Harper’s Bazar
The same publication also gave the award for best Regional Furniture Brand to Dubai’s company The Odd Piece, and the award for Best Lighting Brand to Portuguese company Sharip. Italian interior design company, Morosso, was considered the Most Innovative Brand of the whole event. In fact, Morosso presented a strong showing at Dubai, just like textile brand Kvadrat, that won the Harper’s Bazar Award for Best Textile Brand.
In the end, Downtown Dubai 2017 lived up to the high expectations. It was a successful event that created a lot of media and commercial buzz. Here’s hoping the 2018 Edition will be just as successful.
