The summer season is going stronger than ever but we already looking for the next mind-blowing design event. Even with the hottest temperature, we have our eyes on an event that will revive our summer in August: DW! Design Weekend is an urban festival that has the design culture as the focal point of its strategies and it wants to emphasize and celebrate the connections between design and architecture, art, decorations, urbanism, technological innovation, and all the social implications that an event like this can bring to the society. Since 2012, every year a new edition of the DW! Design Weekend has been organized by its creator Lauro Andrade, which was inspired by Milan Design Week and London Design Festival: this year will be the 8th edition of a design festival that has reached international quality and has become the main design event in Latin America. The purpose behind its realization was more than a simple event on design but to utilize it as an instrument to generate a better life’s quality and a way for the community to come all together. WHAT YOU CAN’T MISS
BAUHAUSWOLD: DESIGN, ARQUITETURA E ARTE – 100 ANOS DEPOIS DA BAUHAUS
BAUHAUSWORLD is a celebration of one of the most important design school of the 20th century in correspondence with the 100th anniversary of its birth. A DW documentary – directed by Lydia Ranke and available on Youtube – has been filmed to celebrate the Bauhaus’s spirit and its conception of architecture, design and the arts with its peculiar modernism approach. The film crew interviewed architects, designers, creatives to ask them a simple but fundamental question: “Bauhaus’s social ideals and design principles still shape the way we live today?”.
SEVERAL CONNECTED EVENTS
A lot of independent design events (but still deeply connected with DW! Design Weekend!) will be organized all over Sao Paolo. HIGH DESIGN – Home & Office Expo (August 21-23) is a tradeshow focused on solutions for architectural and interior design projects and it will display more than 100 brands’ exhibitions at the São Paulo Expo; MADE – Mercado, Arte, Design (August 22-25) instead will be located at Pavilhão da Bienal do Ibiraquera and it’s centered on giving visibility through exhibitions and installations to national and international artists and studios and on spreading the design culture with the help of design forums.
MODERNOS & ETERNOS, in the suggestive Mosteiro de São Bento, will highlight different installations, mixing antique and contemporary styles. The last one, BOOMSPDESIGN (August 19-21) is an international forum established to connect design to architecture and art that will be held at the Lounge Bienal.
