Bethan Gray to Present a Collection Based on Oman Architecture – To be unveiled at Designjunction festival.
Award-winning Welsh designer, based in London, Bethan Gray combines a passion for luxurious natural materials – leather, marble and solid wood – with an extensive knowledge of craftsmanship and cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. Her new collection – Shamsian, is a collaboration between Gray and Iranian artist Mohamad Reza Shamsian inspired by Omani Architecture.

The solid wood and maple veneer tables and cabinet showcase 16th-century marquetry technique, with intricate brass designs inlaid and/or overlaid into the base. Here, brass complements the beautiful hand-stained turquoise in the Nizwa cabinet, making the color pop.

“Cultural referencing is at the heart of my design philosophy,” said Gray. “Currently I’m particularly drawn to the graphic nature of Islamic art and craft. Through my travels and research I’m inspired to create original, contemporary pieces that resonate with global, as well as local, audiences, and that have an elegant and timeless appeal.”
