From April 17th to April 22nd, Milan will host the Milan Design Week 2018 or FuoriSalone 2018. There will be plenty to see and do in Milan during this stunning and popular design week. After all, all the eyes in the world would be in Milan during this agglomerate of design event!
That’s right, the Fuori Salone 2018 or Milan Design Week will transform, once again, this wonderful city of Milan into the most luxurious capital of design and interior design. To help you navigate throughout this amazing event, My Design Agenda decided to provide you with 7 Things to Do in Milan during the Milan Design Week!
1 – Visit the Salone del Mobile 2018 – During the Milan Design Week 2018, Milan will also host one of the biggest and most popular trade fairs of design, furniture and interior design in the entire world. Be sure to stop by the gigantic Fiera Milano Rho and visit the prestigious Salone del Mobile or ISaloni, where you can find the top brands of the business like Boca do Lobo, Fendi Casa, PullCast or Missoni Home.
2 – Stop by The Popular Brera Design District – In 2018, the famous Brera District makes its return to Milan Design Week with the theme “Be Human: Designing with Empathy”. Some of the major design events, international designers, and young Italian ambassadors will be present or represented in this established Milanese district. This is the 9th Year in a Row that Brera Design District will be a central part of the FuoriSalone 2018. There is a lot to see and do in this district in the main streets of the district, namely Via Brebra and Via San Tomaso.
3 – Don’t miss the Tortona Rocks in the Tortona Design District – Now in its third edition, the Tortona Rocks, located in the Porta Genova, will showcase the work of international design. As always, the Tortona Design District will take to the streets, animating much of the neighborhood with countless events between Via Tortona and Via Savona. Totaling 20 exhibits, 30 designers, and 50 companies, Tortona is among the most famous districts at Fuorisalone.
4 – Enjoy the Parties and Mini Events of Fuorisaloni– During the Milan Design Week 2018, you’ll be able to experience some of the best parties and design party events in Milan. In terms of parties you should check out the BL Meets Lladró, a party collaboration between two giants of interior design, Boca do Lobo and Lladró, that will celebrate the collaboration between them. This party will take place at Piazza Fontana, 6, 20122 Milano.
In terms of parties, we can say that the best ones we belong to Dimore Studio, the famous Milanese Design Studio. They will organize several parties during the Milan Design Week, all of them at Via Solferino 11, the headquarters of Dimore Studio. We highlight the opening and closing parties at 18th and 20th of April, respectively.
In terms of mini-events, at Tortona, from 17 to 22 April, Moooi travels back to Via Savona 56. A real voyage of discovery, A Life Extraordinary showcases a universe of mystical worlds and points of view inspired by the extraordinary diversity of life. Also in Tortona, enemy at Via Tortona 20, check out at the 18th of April the event of Hic est faber called The Beauty of Artisinal Craftmanship Translated Into Contemporary Quality.
The Superdesign Show is also back for its 3rd edition! Although the event’s mission towards quality, excellence, research and the “less fair, more museum” original concept remains undiminished, the common theme that characterizes every edition renovates. Check it out During Milan Design Week at via Tortona 27.
Between the 19th and the 20th of April, you should stop by three showstopping events. Still, at Tortona you can stop at Icone Luce at Superstudio Più by Giulio Cappellini on Via Tortona 27. It’s an event of the SuperDesign Show. At Via Varese 14 you’ll find the Subtle Deluxe – BassamFellows. This is an event of BassamFellows that transforms the Lifestyle Gallery with a new collection of glamorous textiles, a luxurious indoor/outdoor collection in solid wood and bronzed stainless steel, and BassamFellows classics rendered anew in raw, white ash. Lastly, stop by Stecca 3.0 on the 20th of April at Via G. De Castillia 26 for a spetacular art event.
5 – Explore the Isola Design District – With several creative and sensational installations across the main streets of the Isola Design District, this famous district will present this year the theme of “Rethinking Material”, an exploration into the versatile experimentation of materials. Local craftsmen and international designers, like Kensaku Oshiro or Piero Lissoni, will come together to showcase their extraordinary creations throughout the many ateliers and open shops in the neighborhood. The central nerve of the Isola district will be La Stecca 3.0, a community space transformed exposition center dedicated to workshops for design.
6 – Brands to Watch – During the Milan Design Week, Milan will become the Top Place to Be for every major Design Brand in the world. Joining the likes of major luxury brands like Boca do Lobo, Fendi Casa, DelightFULL or Missoni Home ( Viale Elvezia, 22, 20154 Milano) will be other top brands like Hermes (Via Monte Napoleone, 12, 20121 Milano) or Swarovski (Galeria Vittorio Emanuele II), both of them with powerful flagship stores in Milan. All of them will be present at the Salone del Mobile 2018 and will make their presence be known during FuoriSalone. You can also check out the famous Nilufar Gallery located at Via della Spiga, 32 20121 Milano. They will promote several parties and events during the FuoriSalone.
Famous interior designers like Tom Dixon, Dimore Studio and Rossana Orlandi will also be present in Milan during the design week! They will be present at multiple events across the city, namely at ISaloni and at the most prestigious Design Districts of the City, namely Tortona. Orlandi’s studio is one of the most famous Studios in Milan and you can even book a meeting to visit it. It’s located at Via Matteo Bandello, 14.
7 – Enjoy the City – If you want to take a break from the Design Week, then we advise you to stroll around the stunning city center of Milan. This city is widely regarded as a global capital in industrial design, fashion and architecture, but it’s also a heaven of culture and art! You can stop by the iconic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II or visit the classic Duomo di Milano.
